Summary: After Severus exposes Remus Lupin as a werewolf, Albus Dumbledore decides to punish him by banishment.

Albus Dumbledore summoned Severus Snape to his office when he learned the source of the “rumor” that was the main topic of conversation at breakfast.
“Severus, I am very disappointed in you. Revealing Remus’ secret was a cruel and spiteful thing to do.”
Severus tried to defend himself. “But Headmaster, by forgetting the Wolfsbane he put everyone at the school at risk. Your fondness for him and his cohorts blinds you to the real danger he represents.”
“I don’t believe you were worrying about the students or staff when you told your Slytherins; you were out to get back at him and Sirius Black for the humiliation you felt.”
“Yes, I was humiliated in front of the Minister of Magic, and you found it amusing, didn’t you Headmaster? I am never going to be able to redeem myself in your eyes. It will always be the Golden Gryffindors, never the lowly Slytherin.”
“That is quite enough, Severus. I am too angry right now for you to be safe around me. I am not a proponent of physical punishment, but I am sorely tempted to turn you over my knee to try to beat some sense into you.”
“Albus…” Severus stepped back, shocked at the depth of anger expressed by his mentor. Was he to be sent back to Azkaban because he let the truth about Lupin “slip” to his House? Was it spite and not concern that motivated his actions? In his shock and fear he missed Albus’ next words.
“I’m sorry, Headmaster, what did you say?”
“Oh yes, you will be sorry Severus. I am not going to revoke your parole and send you back to Azkaban. No one deserves that. But I am going to send you away for a while. The Ministry has been after me to provide a professor for an exchange program with the United States. You are going to America, Severus, to spend a year at the Shaman Institute of Arizona. An American potions professor will be teaching here in your place. Go and pack. You will be leaving by International Portkey tomorrow morning.”
