Hey there! I am still around, but my posting has been entirely comments on other journals and nothing on my own.
I have been laid off for 3 1/2 months now. I am still on severance, so no money worries...yet. Not many jobs for veterinary pathologists in the area though. I need to move to the East Coast. Unfortunately most of the jobs are in the eastern NJ area, not the nicest place to live.
I got information today on the pension I can expect to get from my old job once I get to 62. It was pretty decent; I was surprised. Now I just have to make it to 62...that's a ways to go yet.

East Coast for family reasosn? Or because that's where the jobs are supposed to be? I would have thought western states would have a lot of need for that sort of thing.

Most of the large Pharma companies (which are the ones which hire their own pathologists) are either in the mid-West (which I reject as I must be on a coast) or on the East Coast. There are only a tiny handful out here, despite the large amount of Biotech.

Oh, I didn't know it was a pharmacological thing. I was picturing more of a lab where the farmers send dead animals that have baffled their local vet, so they know if there's something that would effect the rest oftheir herd.

Yes, that is diagnostic pathology and I used to do that, many years ago. The closest lab to the Bay Area is UC Davis, now that the Petaluma lab has closed.
In recent years I have been doing regulatory pathology. The hours and the pay are better and you never have to deal with cows that have been dead for a week, outside in the summer sun. *Phew!*
